There are some people’s opinion that you would rather not hear and then there are those that you agree with. Through all of those opinions are those that make you think. If you have read any of the writings of Raj Patel you know that he is one of those writers that make you think. After reading some of his work you can see that he sees things as they are and from a different perspective then you are programed to see them. As I was reading I actually thought as many times as I had heard what he was talking about I had never “really” listened. Reading his work has definitely made me open my eyes to a different view point of reality. If you think about it prices are set on things and that price becomes the value. That then becomes it’s worth to us. This is a very deep thing to analyze but it does make you rethink things. I have read a book before about how people are obsessed with naming everything so we can fit it into a space in our minds and these writings remind me of that in the same thought provoking way. I love to read things that have a fresh way of seeing the same things we grow so used to that we do not actually see them. It keeps us on our toes so we do not get too comfortable. If we get too comfortable then we may loose what makes society great and that is the melting pot of thought provoking people. You can win a copy of the book written by this writer at the Macmillan press sweepstakes.

There are certain things in life that we just believe to be facts. We have just agreed that this is the way it as as a society and no one has challenged it. That was until now. We have always thought that eyeglasses had to cost a lot of money. Or we thought you could get cheap eyeglasses but they had to look outdated. None of that is true now. There is a company called Zenni Optical. They make their own eyeglasses in fashionable styles without charging fashionable prices. They have figured out what so many companies have not and that is if you offer the customer a good product the customer will do your advertising for you. Word of mouth is a big advertiser. Do you not listen more to the man on the street then the billboard above him? Of course when you do not advertise you have to have a lot of confidence in your product as well. A bad product will not sell itself. There is an article that explains how Zenni works so the customer can benefit with cheap prices. As they explain without advertising and with making their own product they have eliminated the middleman and the product just becomes about the company and the customer. It brings it all back to basics. What an original concept?
