For several years I have worked with people that are animal lovers as we are. There is something about the feeling you get when the match between the perfect pet and the perfect family for that pet is made.There are certainly many animals available which means the odds are in favor of finding the right one for your family. People looking for a pet have different qualities that they are looking for. That is when looking for a pure breed can be a good choice. There are puppies for sale in many different types of breeds. Some people want a certain type of coat for example understanding that the coat of a dog can take time to care for or can take no time at all depending on the breed. Some breeds are better with younger children then others. Some breeds actually will take on a parenting role with young children. I had the help of my Golden Retriever Cleo raising our children for 15 years. I trusted her more then any person I have ever known as she watched to make certain our children stayed in our yard and no one came up to them. She was always quick to react should a passer by decide to near our property. With a guarded stance and placing herself between the passer by and our children the stranger was what she considered notified. Her stance informed them about a line they were not to cross and no one ever challenged her. She never acted out vicious but she was to be taken seriously and everyone did. I can not tell you how many people I would hear call out my name from the invisible line. I would always hear them explaining to her that they were just there to see me and they would not bother the children. I wanted to tell them that she felt just as strongly about protecting me! Before our children were born she slept in our door way every night. No matter how tired she would follow us if one of us got up. Once the children were born her loyalties became clear and she would sleep in the middle of the house half way between both rooms. If a child cried she would already be there before us. Her job as care giver was self assigned and carried on through her entire life. As we left for the hospital to have our first child I had no idea when I told her “we” were having a baby that she would embrace the word “we” so literally but she did from the time the child came home until the day we lost her to cancer. As she left this earth ,on her own terms, we were all with her as she would have wanted so she knew we were all safe and I know she is watching over us still. I have heard many stories similar to mine from the great breed of Golden Retrievers and I think that is why this breed is so sought after.
